दिल्ली। पत्रकारिता जगत में बड़े नाम से पहचान रखने वाले वरिष्ठ पत्रकार कुलदीप नैयर का निधन हो गया है। वह 95 साल के थे। कुलदीप नैयर बीते तीन दिनों से दिल्ली के एक अस्पताल के आईसीयू में भर्ती थे। काफी समय से उनकी सेहत बहुत खराब थी। बुधवार की रात करीब साढ़े बारह बजे उन्होंने अंतिम सांस ली। आज दोपहर लोधी रोड पर स्थित घाट में उनका अंतिम संस्कार होगा।
वह राज्यसभा के मनोनीत सदस्य भी रह चुके हैं।
कुलदीप नैयर का जन्म 14 अगस्त 1924 को सियालकोट (अब पाकिस्तान) में हुआ था। वो भारत के प्रसिद्ध लेखक एवं पत्रकार थे। उन्होंने भारत सरकार के प्रेस सूचना अधिकारी के पद पर कई वर्षों तक कार्य करने के बाद यूएनआई, पीआईबी, द स्टैट्समैन, इंडियन एक्सप्रेस के साथ लंबे समय तक जुड़े रहे। कुलदीप नैयर 25 सालों तक द टाइम्स लंदन के संवाददाता भी रहे। पत्रकारिता की दुनिया में कुलदीप नैयर पत्रकारिता अवार्ड भी दिया जाता है।
स्कूली शिक्षा सियालकोट में हुई। कानून की डिग्री लाहौर से प्राप्त की। यूएसए से पत्रकारिता की डिग्री ली। उन्होंने दर्शनशास्त्र में पीएचडी भी की थी। कुलदीप नैयर को आपातकाल (1975-77) के दौरान गिरफ्तार किया गया था। उन्हें 1990 में ब्रिटेन में उच्चायुक्त नियुक्त किया गया। वह एक मानवीय अधिकार कार्यकर्ता और शांति कार्यकर्ता भी रहे हैं।
उन्हें रामनाथ गोयनका ऑवार्ड से भी नवाजा गया था। कुलदीप नैयर ने इंडिया आफ्टर नोहरू किताब लिखी थी जो काफी चर्चा में रही।वह 1996 में संयुक्त राष्ट्र के लिए भारत के प्रतिनिधिमंडल के सदस्य थे। 1990 में उन्हें ग्रेट ब्रिटेन में उच्चायुक्त नियुक्त किया गया था। अगस्त 1997 में राज्यसभा में नामांकित किया गया था।एक बेहतरीन पत्रकार के रूप उनको हमेशा याद किया जायेगा।उनकी लेखनी सामाजिक हितों के साथ आम जनमानस के हितार्थ समाहित रहती थी।
